Welcome! We are a full-service library with a collection of 34,000 items -- books, magazines, newspapers, movies and more. New Library Hours - Starting August 29

In our surveys last spring, a majority of you expressed a desire to have the library open in the morning at the same time each day.  You also told us you’d prefer that we open on Fridays instead of Mondays.

We heard you. Starting on August 29 our offseason library hours will be:

Sunday & Monday Closed

Tuesday 10:30-5

Wednesday 10:30-7

Thursday 10:30-5

Friday 10:30-1:30

Saturday 10:30-5

Mango Language Programs online programs are free at the Chilmark Public Library

Since its founding in 2007, Mango Languages has grown to become one of the world's leading providers of online language learning products. Mango is free for all Chilmark Library patrons, accessible through the library’s website with a Chilmark library card number. We now offer 77 languages! Mango also has a mobile app so you can learn on the go.

Each lesson combines real life situations and audio from native speakers with simple, clear instructions. The courses are presented with an appreciation for cultural nuance and real-world application that integrates components of vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and culture.

Wed. June 22, 5pm, Jane Dreeban talks about her book The Urge To Create: Vineyard Portraits. The Event will feature Chilmark artists who are showcased in the book.
Wed. June 29, 5pm, Mache Seibel, MD, discuses his book The Estrogen Window, balancing female hormones through menopause and beyond.
Wed. July 6, 5pm, The Jim Thomas Spirituals Choir presents The US Slave Song Project.  
Wed. July 13, 5pm, Rebecca Gordon discusses her new book, American Nuremberg, on the prosecution of post 9/11 war crimes.
Wed. July 20, 5pm, John Zeizel, author of I'm Still Here: A New Philosophy of Alzheimer's Care, presents Hopeful Aging with Dementia: Making a Difference.
Wed. July 27, 5pm, Chilmark Shellfish Constable Isaiah Scheffer will talk about eel grass restoration projects in Menemsha Pond and Quitsa Pond.
Wed. August 3, 5pm, Cultural anthropologist Rick Shweder will speak about a proposal before the American Anthropological Association to boycott Israeli universities.
Wed. August 10, 5pm, Anna Mia Davidson will speak about her new book Cuba: Black and White.
Wed. August 17th, 5pm, Holly Bellebuono talks about her new book, The Healing Kitchen: Cooking with Nourishing Herbs for Health, Wellness and Vitality.
Wed. August 24th, Dr. Peter Kramer will discuss his latest book, Ordinary Well: A Case for Antidepressants.
Wed. August 31, 5 pm, Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz takes on national politics in his new book Electile Dysfunction.
